Two old-timer neighbors were kids when the el was built and remembered the pre-elevated days. McDonald Ave (then Gravesend Ave) was a nice street of homes and small shops with apartments above. The el almost immediately turned it into an undesirable location.Culver trains ran at grade for 40 years before the El was built. It had very little ambiance before or after the El was built. |
