If the trains are reliable and run on time

They haven't run as fast as was claimed since 1969 (160 mph). That's almost 49 years. And I don't expect anything to change any time soon either.

Never mind the fares blowing up way beyond inflation levels—Metroliner fare from WAS to NYP was $12.75 in 1969, which is equivalent to $87.17 in 2017 dollars; Acela fares blow up as high as $289 one-way, which is 332 percent higher (unless you luck out and get the $89 Acela Saver fare).
