My guess is that, with the 2nd Ave el gone, their property holdings would increase in value. The developers went so far as to make sure that the City Council's Brooklyn members, who usually voted along the same lines as their Queens counterparts, voted to take down the el. The Queens politicians were thrown under the bus! I don't know the details about who got to Laguardia, who wanted the lower 2nd Ave el kept, until work would begin on the lower part of the SAS. |
