I am only saying that there is evidence that this was done as a tribute. Not that it is conclusive.

In fact, it's completely inconclusive. Was the Pennsylvania Railroad also a bunch pf confederates that the design was repeated (at the very least) at Penn Station's Mezzanine too?

What is conclusive is that they look like Confederate battle flags, not that it was intentional.

Yes, they do. But this then gets back into the "people see that in there where it isn't". But that was the whole point of the thread, that the MTA is removing/covering them because of some perceived idea that they are confederate flags, when they are not.

I am thinking that it is highly likely to have been intentional, but you make good points in the other direction.

The issue is that this sort of thing wasn't done anywhere else. Any theming of the stations were always very in your face, and not subliminal. Furthermore, the fact that the design was repeated at Penn Station, shows it's a geometric design they used at the time. Unless we are going to say that the Pennsylvania Railroad was also confederates. It may even be in other stations, but as mentioned, mezzanine/hallway tilework are harder to come by, as they aren't photographed often like platform level is.

Of course, if it weren't common practice back in 1918 to glorify the Confederacy, this wouldn't even be a question.

And again, any theming in any of the stations were highly in your face and prominent, and very obvious, at least at the time, as well as documented.
