If you want to open a bank account or sign up for internet service, you need to agree to a one-sided contract that allows the bank or ISP to do (or not do) anything while you waive any right to seek redress. Since having a bank account (or other financial service) and internet (including cell) service is necessary to meaningfully participate in society, and the only purveyors of these services require one-sided contracts, it's absurd to claim you "voluntarily" agreed to them. and doesn't violate our laws. Except that consumer protection laws were passed specifically to prevent the sort of behaviours that these one-sided contracts then allow. |
