They simply are not available. Still gotta put LIRR's ASC in themThe MARC cars are Amtrak NEC-certified with ASCES et al. LIRR cannot at this time go and disrupt that. LIRR got their cab cars because they'll take whatever MARC says, and LIRR needs bathrooms on 50% of its cars. I notice MARC has several Brunswick line trains with NJT-style MLV's and a Sumitomo trailer next to the engine. So maybe they have excess cab cars. The Comet 3's have been idle by 6 or 7 years. Then they got flood damaged. They needed a mid-life overhaul anyway. I just don't see anyone willing to spend $1 mil per car to fix them. I expect that after the bank lien term runs out, they'll quietly cut them up. |
