Between 30th Ave and Astoria Blvd. there is a hill and a sweeping right turn. I would think 8507 came upon 8545 too fast and couldn't stop. At that time the middle track was pretty much unsignaled to my recollection. By the time I became a train operator in 1981, they installed a signal there which you must key by by pushing a lever. Now with the new signals there are homesignals all over.I am surprised no pics ever surfaced of those cars temporarily housed at Corona Yard. |
