The 1970 IND Queens line crash made a list of the worst subway train wrecks in Stan Fischler's 1976 book Uptown, Downtown (which, in their photo pages, misdated the R38 in the caption accompanying a pic of a front end of that second production-model stainless-steel fleet, as being late '50's when they were built in 1966-67, plus very early copies misattributed Budd as builder - later copies, such as I have, corrected the R38 manufacturer in that caption to St. Louis Car).

As for the LIRR color-coding at that outset, what Pantone colors would have been applicable to each branch, and to what extent did it influence the change in color scheme for New York subways after '79?
