LIRR has always needed a summer, weekend surge fleet since the 1890's, which they had until that pompous jackass Prendergast replaced the Pullman-Standard and C-1 fleets, which already tight, with the C-3, and cut seat inventory 15%.The trend actually started in 1988 when a prior LIRR Pres over-scrapped the diesel fleet following the Ronkonkoma electrification, scrapping or selling about 60 2700 and 2800 series cars. |
