There was already a huge margin between operating and derailment speeds, over 100%. It's just easier to dumb down the operation and subsequently deny anything better is possible.Example: In the 1940s, the NYC subway ran more trains, often at higher speeds, over 19th century grade bolted track on wood ties than it does now with continuous welded rail checked by inspection trains with laser eyes. |
