Actually, if I remember, there were protests to reopen Myrtle which is why the Myrtle el structure between Bway and Bridge St came down as quickly as it did. Had it taken as long to tear down Myrtle as it did Fulton after 1956, the MTA might very well have been forced to resume service on it. with the el structure demolished, by the time the case would have come to court, the MTA could have successfully argued that rebuilding the structure would have been prohibitively expensive and not feasible. As it was, once the structure came down there was no longer any point for any legal action to proceed. |
