I believe tha spur was kept, after 12/30/1890 (the official closing date of Park Ave el), because Fredrick Uhlmann, the BRT president wanted to build a train bridge over the East River. I believe that he kept the spur as possible alternate route to his first proposed plan for a bridge just north of the present WillyB. After 4 years of getting nowhere with the NYC (Manhattan, before 1898) and NY state, the BRT's charted was recalled in 1896.
