Well, "QUEENS BLVD EXP" (15 characters) fits, but "BROADWAY EXPRESS" (16 characters) triggers the scrolling, so it seems that the display is 15 characters, assuming the characters are equally wide and not proportionally spaced.Some E trains still have the shorter version, so we'll try to see if "QUEENS BLVD EXP" fills the screen completely. The R142s have a fixed number of slots (20, I believe) for characters on their side signs, but the R160s just have a collection of pixels, like all the cars' interior end signs, so they're more variable.
