Very nice work Mike over some very familiar territory for me.In the mid /late '70's I was commuting home on the Ronkonkoma or Babylon late nights. For several months I made a train out of Track 18 at NYP. I'd often get there early and watch the model board through the window in C tower. Over the course of a few days, the operator invited me in. He, old italian guy and his young latino assistant, took a liking to this 20 yr old rail buff. I actually made some moves under their supervision lining up say tunnel # 4 to trk 19, etc. About a year later I saw the latino guy on the plat. He invited me in again, but the old guy had since died. His little funeral picture was hung on the model board. I can still see it. LOL, your picture shows the little porch behind the tower - the guys used to pee off that balcony instead of walking up to the station. The whole area stunk of piss!!! What did you say you think is in the tower now? |
