Hi Elkeeper,
It looks like I may have found a photo with the turnback track west of Sands St. at nycsubway.org

URL is:
http://nycsubway.org/perl/show?113235

photo is dated February 1944, so it was still in place even though 5th ave. el was gone (don't remember now - did Lex. trains also use the loop besides going to Park Row?)

tracks from left to right in photo:
Bklyn. bound trolley track
Bklyn. bound elevated track
next, what looks like the "Y" switch leading to the turnback track (?) west of the two converging el tracks. It is occupied by a train
City Bound elevated track
City Bound trolley track

It is found on the page of Sands St. location photos - Sands St. station is listed on the Fulton St. line page

Fulton St. line page found in the Section at the: Line by Line page - "Early Elevateds" section

let me know what you think. Thanks.
