Posted by kp5308 on Mon Sep 26 19:48:07 2016 This past Sunday an excursion was run to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society. The 2 Reading & Northern RDCs (#9166 still carries Reading Company on the letterboard) ran over several ex-Reading lines now operated by the RBMN. We started at the "Road of Anthracite" headquarters in Port Clinton PA:First treat was a photo stop at Tamaqua on the Little Schuylkill Navigation RR. The station on the left was built in 1874 after the RDG took control: Then back to Port Clinton to switch to the original Philadelphia & Reading Main Line. Three recently acquired ex-NS/Southern MP15DC endcabs sat outside the enginehouse: Made a quick trip up to Auburn...this is the ex-RDG station built in 1903, now a private residence: Then back down to the Pennsy bridge (also at Auburn) for a photo runby. The light was actually better in the opposite direction: Pile back on for the hop to Schuylkill Haven: For a runby in much better light: Wadda poser: Then up the Mine Hill & Schuylkill Haven....watch your head: For a visit with the star of Project 113: After a photo stop at West Cressona to check out the brand new "freight house" used by the RBMN signal department: We made our last stop at the newly expanded Reading & Northern Steam shop. When the ex-Reading T1 #2102 is finished with the restoration (due to be completed in spring 2017) this will be the 4-8-4s stall: Any day with a train ride is a good day. This one could NOT have been better: |
