As best as I recall, there was indeed a rule regarding that. You were required in the event of a personal reduction application to first close the cab sash, place your door check in the cab door, leaving it open only a crack, and then let it rip. The safety reason behind the rule was that a shoe arc on the third rail had the potential of igniting your personal reduction and causing a conflagration in the lead car. |
