Tuscarora Almanac - August 28, 1991 - The Book of Wrecks

A southbound No. 4 Lexington Avenue Express derails north of 14 Street - Union Square Station while switching from the express to local tracks. The crash killed five passengers and injured over two hundred. The train consisted of ten R-62’s; (s) 1440 - 1439 - 1437 - 1436 - 1435 - 1434 - 1432 - 1431 - 1433 - 1438. 1437 was cut if half by the collision and scrapped. 1435, 1436, 1439 and 1440 and were badly damaged and not returned to service.

Tuscarora Almanac - August 28, 2009 - The Book of Last Runs


The last pair of R-40M's, 4484-4485 ran in service today.. They operated in a mixed consist with R-42's on the "V" Queens - 6th Avenue Local on August 28, 2009. The train consisted of (n) 4752-4753, 4660-4661, 4485-4484, 4720-4721 and 4763-4762.
