The BRT/BMT tunnel being many times larger, simply subsumed the Beach tunnel.The Dual Contract builders knew there was no practical way to save the Beach tunnel itself, so they took a few photos to document things (I'm glad they did) and made an attempt to save the railcar(s). The car(s) got lost, probably in the combined craziness of massive construction and WW1. I'd speculate that some construction exec got tired of waiting for a museum to it/remove them from wherever they'd been taken, and ordered it/them scrapped. |
