Posted by gbs on Sat Jul 30 21:25:17 2016 Several weeks ago someone posted that new exterior side signs were being retro-fitted on the R188s to include green circles (local) and red diamonds (express), similar to those that were installed on the R62s (now on the #6). But I never saw them, so I thought I had dreamed it, or else it was a joke.But today I saw the first set with them, 7561-7565 (plus the new car) on the north end, while the south end set didn't have them, so they work even when the whole train is not equipped. They look good, except that the new electric 7 in the center is too small and too pixilated, without a nice smooth diagonal stroke from the upper right to the lower left. Since these cars will almost surely spend their entire lives on the #7 in CBTC, a better 7 should have been devised. Now, for consistency, and to emphasize that the green circle means local and the red diamond means express, the interior end signs should be modified so that the round parentheses surrounding the 7 on the locals are in green and the square brackets surrounding the 7 on the express are in red. The 7 itself can remain yellow, but the () and <> should be green and red. |
