Ah, didn't realize it was quite that bad.

Its bad and some, and a couple of red light violation. In one indecent the operator was fired and others were discipline for not following proper evacuation protocols.

I'm curious though; WikiPedia says there's 128 7K cars in service, but I've only ever found one train running on weekends (Red Line). Are they hiding them? I was thinking they could put those 8 car trains out on weekends...

The deployment of the 7k cars has been in flux for the last couple of months. You may have heard about a 7k train losing power in a curve near Rosslyn. WMATA discovered the tolerances of the third rail shoes on the 7k cars was not great enough to handle the differences in the height of the third rail. WMATA embargoed the 7k cars from all but the Red line until the third rail height was corrected.

There have been other issues holding them from being used in revenue service.

At the same time the 1k cars are being shipped to Baltimore for scrapping at a rate of 2 a week.
