John, I am well aware of the history of the arch. That said, as I have pointed out in numerous threads, I consider the single flight down IRT/BMT stations as in much of Manhattan to be the ideal--the point is very quick time platform to sidewalk=rapid transit. I am aware that the lame fools on the "art commission" forced Dupont because of the potential bridge across Rock Creek. I judge the light in the stations by my inability to read comfortably as opposed to other systems where I don't have that problem.Ridership when compared to BART at the point where they had equal route mileage was roughly double. And, yes, clearly they are deliberately short of rolling stock as they can't run full length trains on all routes in rush. We will never agree about express trackage, much as my friends who tout BRT as superior to rail will never persuade me in more than a few limited cases. |
