The service was operated by Conrail under contract with both SEPTA and NJT. Down to one train in each direction, the through running ended on "August 1, 1981, when SEPTA withdrew its support for Conrail passenger services operating beyond the Philadelphia commuter zone." [from Trains, Trolleys & Transit]

The June 27, 1982, Raritan Valley timetable still showed one train in each direction between West Trenton and Newark but the April 24, 1983, one no longer did.
