However there is precedent for changing the term “motorman” to "operator.” Back when streetcars had C/Rs, the person who actually operated the car was the motorman. After C/Rs were eliminated from streetcars, the NYCTS changed the title to “surface lines operator” since the former M/M now had additional duties besides starting and stopping the car. That would be the logic behind using the term “operator” even though I myself personally prefer the term “Motorman!" |
