Hi. I remember this very clearly. In the late spring or early summer of 2001, I noticed a bunch of old cars parked on the SBK cut in between the expressway and 4th Avenue. From the highway, I could see they were painted in work yellow, but that was about it.I noticed they seemed to be there for a number of weeks, so one Sunday, I went over there, and I saw that they were Qs. While I suspect now and then that 95 (or so...) year old wooden cars wouldn't be in great shape, it was obvious that even a few weeks in an unprotected spot had led to some serious vandalism, and if there'd been any chance of saving them when they were first put there, by mid-July there was none. They disappeared entirely by the awful autumn of that year. |
