I vividly remember how the motorman would goose a Brooklyn-bound train before bottoming out in that tunnel, trying to build up a full head of steam. The gears would get to G# above middle C, then the gear pitch would slowly start to drop as the train labored uphill. More often than not, it would drop all the way to B below middle C by the time we'd reach Bedford Ave. |
