Five BILLION dollars was enough to send it to 125th, and possibly connect to the Bronx. We have thousands of able bodied people in homeless shelters, for what the city pays to house them (more than you'd think) they could have dug a tunnel for the 2nd ave Lex-Bronx connector using hand and air tools.Or the existing work could have been done in a less wasteful, less corrupt manner, but still with some 3rd cousins employed, some payoffs paid and other nods to current accepted practices. Considering the vast power of modern equipment and the ability of semi-automated machinery to amplify a worker's reach and speed, the whole thing could have probably been done with a half the staff, in half the time, at half the depth under the street and with room for center tunnels for later use (2 tracks now, 2 more possible later). |
