edf40wrjww2msgDetail:detailStr fiogf49gjkf0d Yesterday I visited Discount Model Trains in Addison (a suburb of Dallas and a FANTASTIC model train shop) and afterwards I drove to the Carrollton terminal of the Dallas Garland & Northeastern to see what was going on there. The DGNO is owned by Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. and is a complex switching terminal that started operations in 1992. It is made up of a conglomeration of spurs and industrial leads. It operates 337 miles of rail line in the Dallas and north Dallas area, using a combination of owned and leased lines as well as trackage rights.
The DGNO interchanges with BNSF, KCS, TNER, and UP.
Front and center was a rare find: a GP38DC formerly owned by New England Central, wearing number 3859. She started life as PC no. 7757:
She has a funny "bump" on the fireman's side of the cab. Anyone know what it's for?
Across the street is the former depot originally built and used by the Cotton Belt:
Behind the depot is the current DART Carrollton stop:
Three engines: GP38DC no. 3859; 2GS14B no. 140; and SD40M-2 no. 3417, nee ATSF SD45 no. 1827:
Safety first!
Alongside no. 3417 is no. 2001, a 3GS21C that started life as a B unit, UP SD24B no. 409B:
It was a fun day!
