Posted by kp5308 on Tue Jun 14 21:07:04 2016 My wife TOLD me I could railfan around her hometown of Union NJ Sunday while she took care of some family stuff so away I go for about 4 hours! A little over an hour at Linden gave me 12 trains to shoot. Good platform angles:![]() ![]() BTW some of those ALPs are looking rather tattered. Note the peeling stripes on #4652: ![]() Linden also offers ground level shooting with no fence: ![]() After a quick run to "Union Station" on the ex-Lehigh Valley: ![]() I catch this sequence at Elizabeth after a 15 minnet wait: ![]() ![]() Look closely...you can still make out that Regional up past North Elizabeth: ![]() Which is where I go next for NJT west & east: ![]() That protective girder in front of the North Ave. bridge looks like it has some, shall we say "wear" on it: ![]() I wanted to see if I could shoot anything at the Norfolk Southern E-Rail container terminal at Elizabethport...not a good sun angle: ![]() The other end of the yard is a different story! This CSX GP40-3 rebuild is about a year old. The locomotive was released from the Huntington (WV) Shop in July 2015: ![]() I think the Wabtec cab/nose module looks better (but still kinda ugly) on the 4 axle...the SD40-3 looks REALLY bad. The 6519 was built as Chesapeake & Ohio GP40-2 #4184 in 1972. CSX will soon be going back to the 6 axle rebuilds so not many more of these will be coming off the production line. Reportedly 130 GP38/40 cores will be done by the time the program ends: ![]() |
