The cars used on the 3 Av el were actually Steinways which never ran with trailers either on the IRT Queens lines or the IRT mainline. The first time Lo-V trailers were used in Steinway consists was on the 3 Av el. The IRT felt that the Steinways were not powerful enough to operate with trailers through the Steinway tunnel and the TA apparently felt the same way about them even when they were transferred to the mainline. I imagine the TA didn’t care about that when they were transferred to the 3 Av el. |
