Northbound, at least, the fumigation process prevents usage of maximum track capacity. If I understand correctly, the one crew member has to shut the doors then walk the train, while in the station (be it Broad Channel, or Rockaway Blvd). Actually, if fumigation is not expedited at Rockaway Blvd, the shuttle runs the risk of holding up the entire A line operation (not just one branch). The only way to shrink the gap northbound is to revise/eliminate the fumigation process somehow. Southbound, it shouldn't be much of a problem, but at the end of a long run from 207th the A train may not be running as close to schedule as is ideal. The benefit of using Rockaway Blvd rather than Broad Channel to relay, however, is that the shuttle does not have to cross the northbound track to begin its trip. |
