I doubt it. The way the typesetting on the '23rd ST. - ELY AVE.' station name tablet - particularly the shape of the 'S' as well as of the numbers - point to it being prepared in or around 1937 at the earliest. It certainly matches with the 169th Street station in the overall shape (especially the 'S' within the name tablet), and preceded the tiling for the three local stations on the Sixth Avenue line. 23rd / Ely is the last new station in the entire system to bear the pre-lettered / numbered tile variant in use since the late 1920's when tiling for the stations between 207th and 116th Streets and again from West 4th Street to Chambers Street/Hudson Terminal (now World Trade Center) was put in. As also used on the following other stations opened up to the end of 1933:
- Bronx Concourse: 205th Street through 174th-175th Street
- Queens Boulevard: Queens Plaza to 46th Street
- South Brooklyn: Bergen Street to Church Avenue
- Brooklyn Crosstown: Court Square to Nassau Avenue
- Jay Street-Borough Hall
