If it weren't for Armstrong's monstrosity of an antenna near Montclair, NJ, many of them would have been off the air for a long time. The problem was most of the TV's (except for channel 2) abandoned Empire and the original multi-antenna was no longer. Because Armstrong's old FM antenna was still there in New Jersey, along with a few other repeater stations over in New Jersey, it was quite a disaster for the TV channels having all their eggs on top of that one basket.
