Hasn't the scrapping of the 1000s been going on for a while now?.Yes and no. Most of the scrapping that has thus far taken place has been of cars that are damaged in some way or another. My understanding is the car in the picture was damaged in a collision at Brentwood Yard. You will notice rear corner of the car looks a little jagged Anymore 7000s arrived? 64 in service as of 01 13 2016 with 84 total on property. Don't know but I would hazard a guess there is somewhere around 100 on the property now with with rough 80 in service. 128 are needed for the both phases of the Silver line. Me thinks WMATA will hold off on scrapping in mass until they have put those into services and an equal number to replace the cars that have already been scrapped do to damage or removed from service for use by others.
