Back in the early 1990s, during an MTA financial crisis (real or imagined, take your choice) there was a proposal to tun the Brighton exp from 207 St to Stl via 6 Ave and the Manny B and eliminate the Wash Hts 8 Av Exp. Although the train should more properly have been called either a B or Q the MTA planned to call the service the “A” since the line had achieved so much popularity due to the Strayhorn/Ellington tune that it would be unthinkable to do away with the A train even though the line would be technically mislabeled. |
