ANOTHER BACK-DATED POST

On this date in 1994, Denver RTD began light rail operations from I-25/Broadway in south Denver and through downtown Denver to the Five Points District. This returned electric rail service to the Mile High City for the first time since 1950.

Since that time, RTD has expanded its light rail service to six lines, with a seventh--plus three electric commuter rail lines, including a line to Denver International Airport--opening in 2016.

The current system has 46 miles of trackage and 172 Siemens SD100 and SD160 LRVs. Ridership, based on statistics from 2014, pegged Denver at 26,362,900 for the year, ranking Denver 8th in the nation (and 5th for new-wave systems). Weekday ridership is approximately 86,300 daily riders--not bad for a system that opened in 1994!
