Weight probably was an issue. They probably would have needed to make these as light as possible for the line.These might also have been the cars used on the 3rd Avenue El had it remained into the 1960s while the line would have otherwise been undergoing a total rebuild (and by now the first of two as I suspect there would have been another rebuild after 9/11) in order to handle more heavier IRT cars. |
