"This is an interim measure until the plow can be evaluated and beefed up if necessary. This is going to be costly for the railroad, but you can't put a price on safety." What a stupid thing to say. Of course you can put a price on safety -- we do it all the time, that's what a cost-benefit analysis is. More to the point, if we couldn't, nobody would ever do anything. Why is it that rail is always subject to ridiculous pronouncements like this -- and other (more dangerous forms of travel -- I'm looking at you, freeways) aren't? |
