Exactly though the system is being installed on the R188s now. On the R143s and R160s it's called OSMES - an optical system used to determine the exact location of the train. The problem is that it's mounted in a terrible spot for an optical system: on the truck behind the wheel treads. Let's just say reliability and maintenance have been issues. The R179s and the R188s use an unpowered (and unbraked) truck to determine location instead. |
