The performance capabilities of equipment is often very different from how it is operated. Track (both condition and layout), power availability, signal setups, and how the agency wants them run are all huge factors in the way a car is operated. The R-44 as delivered broke speed records for subway cars during initial testing on LIRR track. How they ran in the real world, see above. |
