Chicago's streetcar system was one of the largest.....you bet there're tracks underneath lots of streets. About five years they dug up W. 63rd St under the Englewood "L". Under the street was streetcar tracks with wooden ties. On S. South Chicago Ave. near E. 69th St., they're removing the median and there are street bricks underneath. Day workers are salvaging the bricks just like they do for apartment building demolition. |
