Well, since the stations will be in the downtown areas, not very long.

Compare this to the required time it takes to get to just about any airport in the country to catch a flight. For example, it takes me 4-5 hours for me to get to Newark from where I live, in Putnam County, NY. This includes factoring in the required 1.5>2 hours check-in and security procedures, something that boarding a train doesn't require. So your argument doesn't hold water.
