There's actually a 2.5 mile tunnel in Alaska that is used for both rail and car traffic... but not simultaneously since it's only one lane/rail wide. Built in the 1940s as a rail tunnel only, vehicle traffic was loaded onto trains until about 1999 when it was converted to dual use. |
