Interesting. I didn't know there was fragmentation in Metra. They could run them as one organization and keep the names separate, and even keep the LIRR charter continuous through some legal maneuvers (there can't possibly be any lawyers in NYC who could figure that out!!!)

Although some equipment is already common (M-7, M-9), and some can't be common, there are some commonalities that would benefit the three operations, if you include NJT in the mix. NJT and MN could share ALP/ML sets for ESA, and all the lines could order standardized push/pull equipment that fits through everything it needs to, i.e. MLs and Genesis-like units, along with shared electric and dual-mode locomotives for LIRR/MN and NJT/MN.
