I grew up in Manhattan, where the US Open was always made into a much bigger deal than it is. As said, I knew people who didn't care about Tennis much of the year BUT when the US Open came around they watched as much as possible.Basically, that was legend growing up that school was not supposed to start until the US Open concluded. Obviously this year because of where religious holidays fall coupled with a late Labor Day that is impossible to honor without going into a year hoping there are no "snow days" at all. |
