PATCO likely had the capacity to handle the huge crowds that came for that parade, but even there I'm sure trains were WAY more crowded than usual (why I would have insisted on that parade being Saturday night instead of Friday afternoon).

The Pope's visit is a MUCH bigger issue because there are going to be massive security concerns you would never have with a parade for the Phillies winning the World Series, especially since the Phillies Parade went southward outside Center City to the Sports Complex.

Of course, some people who actually have to be at work that weekend and can't be put up in/stay at hotels are going to be royally screwed by this, but what happens if you say do things normal, wind up with more people than the system can handle and it backs up other train traffic, especially along the NE Corridor?
