Boy howdy on that given that the old kernel back in those days was MSDOS and from Windows2000 onward, it's the NT kernel. The results from the system itself would be quite different. The libraries that those programs would be calling would be absolutely different though and any such test to see if it was "Win 9x" would return garbage on the newer systems. The real test is to see if there's no response when you call the version API.https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724832%28v=vs.85%29.aspx The Windows version returned by the function is NOT the name of the product, but rather the kernel version. As you can see in the example above, there is no return at all if it's older than Win2000. |
