It isn't the only directional sign for PATH. Cortlandt St and 14/6 have a sufficient amount of modern directional signs indicating where "PATH" is located in addition to the old mosaics. At Hunter's Point Av you'll find a prominent mosaic which reads "TO Astoria [and] Corona" while there are no longer any trains to Astoria at that platform, but a modern sign "to Flushing" is installed immediately above it. Removing wouldn't cause anymore confusion than is already present at every other station where there are no outdated signs.
