Believe it or not, I obtained an upper side sign curtain that had been installed on that group of R-1s that served time on the BMT after the R-10s arrived. Included are 57th St. M'nh'tt'n, Astoria, Times Square, Chambers St. and City Hall. It actually had a newer Three Stooges Division curtain spliced onto it, and this is what was on display at Cityana Gallery, where I bought that sign. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what car class those BMT signs were used on. At first I thought it may have come from a Triplex, but then I learned that the original Triplex destination signs were printed on the wrong side and were only visible when that sign was illuminated. FINALLY I put two and two together. Frankly, I'm going to hang onto that curtain; I've never seen one offered before on ebay. |
