I’ve seen all sorts of things in my time with the TA. 207 Yd used to have a 51 ft “adapter.” It was actually a World’s Fair Steinway with absolutely no electrical or mechanical components under the car. One end of it had an H drawhead and the other end had a J (IRT Lo-V) drawhead. Whenever it was necessary to either tow or push Lo-Vs into the barn, a crew on either a SMEE or an R-9 would couple to the H end of the car, pull it out of the spur track where it was stored and couple the J end of it to the Lo-Vs that were to be pushed into the barn both ends iron only of course. Totally illegal naturally, but supervision sort of looked the other way when it was in use. By the way, I understand that when the Hi-V was operable, Branford would couple it to the Lo-V iron and air only and the Lo-V would pull in one direction and the Hi-V would pull in the other. |
